Here
at Sperrin View Cottages we
are committed to adding to
our local environment. Through
out construction and during
maintenance it is our goal
to keep this beautiful area
remaining very beautiful indeed.
We are surrounded by lush
brown heather and rocky countryside
and we made every effort to
keep as much of this area
untouched and unspoilt as
possible.
During
construction we tried to ensure
that all our materials came
from local suppliers and all
our tradesmen came from the
local area. This goal had
a two fold objective. The
first objective was a commitment
to spend our money in our
community so that Sperrin
View Cottages would benefit
local people economically.
Secondly by employing local
people and buying material
locally we reduced carbon
miles on delivery of products
and travelling for workers.
We
have also thought about our
effects to the environment
during construction by installing
high quality insulation and
solar panels on our roofs.
The insulation keeps heat
in and cold out. Our solar
panels absorb our suns light
and circulates water through
the panel and heats the water
in the hot water tank in the
hot press. This generates
your domestic hot water and
heats it to a level which
would be suitable for washing
dish’s, having a bath or shower
and it also leaves your water
for central heating warm and
therefore reduces the reliance
on oil to heat the water from
cold.
At
Sperrin View Cottages our
taps run clear cold crystal
clean spring water. It’s like
having Evian on Tap. We drilled
a bore hole 100 metres into
the ground and sourced our
own water. This is pumped
into a pressurised cylinder
and then piped to all the
Cottages. The purity of the
water is first class and tests
results can be found for all
guests in the Cottages. Just
another way for our Cottages
to remain self sufficient
and reduce the strain on our
natural resources.
We
are also changing our electricity
supplier to Airtricity. This
company generates electricity
from wind turbines and is
100% renewable. We are working
hard to obtain our EU flower
which certifies us as a high
level eco-tourism provider.
